Score Surprise (and a Giveaway): Barney Butter

If you read my other blog Carrots ‘N’ Cake, you know how much I like Barney Butter. Let’s just say there’s been more than one occassion where I’ve professed my love for it!

Barney Butter is a brand of almond butter, so I assumed it was a nutritious nut butter option since some of the top scoring almond butters score in the 70-80 range on the NuVal scale, including Go Nuts Almond Butter (NuVal score: 87) and Maranatha Natural Creamy & Roasted Almond Butter (NuVal score: 73). Well, the score for the smooth variety of Barney Butter gets a 36. (We haven’t scored the chunky variety yet.)

Initially, I wasn’t all that impressed by the NuVal score for smooth Barney Butter’s. I mean, 36? Other brands scored so much higher! It just seemed so low! But, when I considered that NuVal nut butters range in scores from a 2 to a 51 and the average score is a 21, Barney Butter actually gets a pretty good score! And, to be completely honest, I thought Barney Butter would score much lower because it just tastes so delicious!

I’ve never tried this brand before, but I love most nut butters. My favorite brand so far is the kind by Justin’s. The maple almond butter flavor is my fave .
