Ever since Fitbloggin’ last month, I’ve been obsessed with Popchips. They’re insanely delicious, and every time I eat the Barbecue or Salt & Vinegar flavors, I have a little moment to myself. The burst of flavor and light, crispy chips just blow my mind.

And not surprisingly, I’ve been eating them quite a lot lately.

I enjoy them as a snack by themselves or as part of a meal.

The NuVal score for Salty Snacks can vary depending on the amount of sodium, saturated fat, unsaturated fat, and fiber the product contains. Snacks with the lowest scores have highly varied fat and sodium content— between 0 to 9 grams of saturated fat and 30-540 mg of sodium. Snacks with the highest scores have the most fiber, least sodium, and primarily use oils with the most unsaturated fatty acids.
The NuVal scores for salty snacks range from 1-59 with an average score of 15, and Popchips range from 12 -20, so they fall right into that “average” zone, which isn’t too shabby.
- POPCHIPS CHEDDAR POTATO: 12
- POPCHIPS SOUR CREAM & ONION: 15
- POPCHIPS BARBEQUE: 17
- POPCHIPS ORIGINAL: 18
- POPCHIPS SEA SALT & VINEGAR: 20
- POPCHIPS SALT & PEPPER: 20
Popchips aren’t at the top of the Salty Snacks category, but their taste totally makes up for it to me!

If you read my personal blog, Carrots ‘N’ Cake, you probably know that I’ve been struggling with some recent not-so-fun gastrointestinal issues. I’ll spare you the gory details, but, basically, I’m not a happy camper right now. I’ve always been healthy, so dealing with this type of illness is really throwing me for a loop. I’m trying to stay positive, but getting well has required me to change my lifestyle, including what I eat.
My doctor suggested limiting the high fiber foods in my diet to give my intestines a rest and minimize symptoms, so I’ve switched up my diet. Check out what I’ve been eating lately:
- Thomas Everything Pre-Sliced Bagels (NuVal score: 20)
- Best Yet Boil-in-Bags White Rice
- Bananas (NuVal score: 91)
- Campbell’s Chicken Noodles Condensed Soup (NuVal score: 20)
- Campbell’s Chicken with Rice Soup (NuVal score: 24)

I’ve also been eating quite a bit of Ramen Noodles (NuVal score: 5), which are not very nutritious, but easy on my digestive track. They’re pretty tasty too!

I thought it would stink eating these types of foods, but my body actually craves them. All I want to eat lately are bagels, Ramen Noodles, and Popchips. Maybe my body really is telling me something. Hopefully, making these changes to my diet will help me get back to my old self again soon!
