I Love Ice Cream Giveaway

ice-cream-cones I don’t know about you, but summer means ice cream to me! I rarely eat it in the colder months, but when it’s hot and humid outside, it’s ALL I want to eat! It’s just so delicious.

So, what do you think is the most nutritious ice cream-like dessert out there? Frozen yogurt? Fat-free sorbet? Ice cream? I bet a lot of people think fat-free sorbet is the best option, right? Wrong. Most sorbets score a 1 or 2 on the NuVal scale. If you’re wondering why, it’s because sorbet is basically frozen fruit-flavored water, which is not very nutritious when you think about. It’s low in calories, but that doesn’t mean it’s nutritious, too.

Ok, so sorbet isn’t very nutritious. What does that mean about the other options out there? The ice cream aisle can actually be pretty confusing, especially when there are so many different health claims on ice cream products: Fat Free, Reduced Fat, Low-Fat, Light, No Sugar Added, Reduced Sugar. Jeez, Louise! This is where you need NuVal to cut through the clutter!

Did you notice that the Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia frozen yogurt scores lower than the ice cream? In many cases, frozen yogurt scores lower than the equivalent ice cream. Kind of crazy, right? NuVal’s Director of Nutrition, Annette Maggi, explains the reason over on A Better Bag of Groceries. But, basically, she says that even though ice cream is not a health food, it offers some of the benefits of milk, like calcium and vitamins. Interesting, right?

But, don’t think you can eat all of the ice cream you want. Not all ice creams score high for nutrition. For instance, Breyers Vanilla with Snickers scores a 3 and Edy’s Rich and Grand Chocolate Chip gets an 8. Tasty, but not very nutritious.

With all of this ice cream talk, I think a giveaway is in order!!! I can’t giveaway ice cream since it will melt and make a mess, but I can giveaway the next best thing: ice cream dishes and a scooper! How adorable are these?!

I think this one would also make a great oatmeal bowl!

Ooo that bowl set is so cute!

Right now I am LOVING Starbuck’s Signature Hot Chocolate ice cream.

I also like tart froyo from places like Pinkberry. I get a small of the original flavor and add pineapple, strawberries, and fruity pebbles cereal for some crunch!

I’m a sucker for anything with cookie dough. I still remember when I was a kid and they first came out with chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream in our store. I thought it was the most amazing thing EVER (I still do). Ice cream is one area I (thought) I never sacrifice taste for health. Turns out my ice cream might be more beneficial than my mom’s fat free sorbet after all!

I love ice cream!! It was a very sad day when my stomach could no longer handle milk. However, there are a number of AWESOME soy ice creams out there. Currently my favorite soy ice cream is Purely Decadent Mint Chocolate Chip.

My favorite kind is Mint Chocolate Chip! I love to have this after dinner, best ending to a meal with that cool fresh flavor (and of course a little chocolate). I have also started a love affair with coffee ice cream, I mean, what’s not to love?!

i love anything that has a vanilla base and peanut butter and chocolate swirled in. my latest fave is alden’s peanut butter and chip (its organic!!). for people in the boston area though, i recommend running to richardson’s ASAP if you love ice cream. the main store even has the dairy cows living behind the store

I love soooo many kinds of ice cream, usually anything that’s chocolate and peanut butter. Recently though I discovered a reduced fat flavor by Turkey Hill (only in the NJ/PA area I think?) that’s chocolate ice cream with Oreos and a cookie/fudge swirl that was so amazing I can’t buy it again for fear of eating it all in one sitting!

Choosing one ice cream flavor is tough b/c I pretty much LOVE them all. I’d have to say my all time favorite is probably cookies n’ cream. I love the chunks of cookie mixed in w/ the creamy goodness. I can’t be trusted w/ it in my freezer, so I stick w/ plain ol’ neapolitan most of the time.

My very favorite ice cream is from a little shop in Bethel, Connecticut called Dr. Mike’s. The flavor is Chocolate Lace and Cream. It’s vanilla ice cream with huge chunks of chocolate, other sweet crunchy bits and the lightest, creamiest ice cream. I can taste it now!!

Oh my, I honestly don’t think I can pick a favorite. I love everything. Except for maple flavored. The fake maple flavoring is just gross. However, vanilla icecream with real maple syrup – now we’re talking.

I rarely buy anything but vanilla for at home because I get sick of a full tub of any flavor too quickly. When we go out for icecream I’m constantly mixing it up. One of the best ones I’ve tried lately was a Blueberry Cheesecake Gelato. Absolutely devine!

We have a local ice cream place called Whiteys. They have a new flavor that is quickly become my favorite. It’s called Sgt. Camo. Here’s a description: It’s real camouflage color, made with tan graham cracker ice cream and green marshmallow ice cream with a fudge stripe through the whole works. That fudge reminds of a sergeant’s stripes. It tastes like a s’more.

Plus, some of the proceeds go to honoring veterans.
