Shop, Trade, Save: Week of June 20

Yowsahs! This week’s grocery shopping was HUGE! Our kitchen was so empty after not grocery shopping last week and “winging it,” so we needed to buy practically one of everything! I find that I don’t eat as nutritiously when our kitchen isn’t fully stocked, so I’m glad that it’s filled with lots of healthy options for the coming week.

This week’s cart:

I brought five reusable bags with me to the grocery store this week. I had a huge shopping, so every bag was used and I saved an additional $0.25 off my bill.

Summer snacks? I love peaches and watermelon! Hummus is good, too … but you don’t have to wait for summer to eat it.

Congrats, Arlene! Please email me at thaupert@nuval.com with your full name and mailing address to claim your prize.

  1. Is the Pink Salmon canned in water or oil? Is the score for tuna canned in oil lower than that of tuna canned in water? Salmon is so delicious, but here in China I don’t think I’ve ever seen it canned! I wouldn’t need it, though; our family bought a huge 13-pound salmon two days ago, and my mom filleted it herself. It’s rather huge. I think we’ll be having salmon constantly these couple weeks… :D

  2. Good call on the salmon. I use canned salmon alot, I make a killer chick pea / salmon burger. I always get the kind without skin and bones because it is a pain to pick out!

  3. I also did a huge shopping haul this week…and you are right, unless we are “stocked”, I just don’t seem to eat as good.

    Love Van’s waffles:)

  4. Sweetersalt- don’t pick the bones & skin out! They hold the calcium and other minerals that make salmon so nutritionally rich. Just drain the can and mash the whole salmon together with a fork. It’s easy and tastes just fine.
