Eat From Your Pantry or Freezer

I’m always trying to do better with saving money. My husband and I want to buy a house someday, so every dollar saved gets us closer to our goal. Sometimes, however, it seems like saving money is so hard, but recently we discovered a simple way to save a few bucks every week: Eat from your pantry or freezer once a week.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Check out what’s in your freezer and pantry.
  • Dig out your cookbooks and find your favorite recipes online.
  • Create a menu for the week by incorporating what your already have in your freezer and/or pantry. Keep your favorite recipes in mind for inspiration and get creative with your meals!
  • Create a grocery list with the ingredients that you need to complete your weekly meal plan.
  • Head to the grocery store and stick to your list.

  8. Chili! We usually have ground turkey or lean ground beef in the freezer and I always keep canned tomatoes and beans in the pantry. Throw in some spices and a basic, filling chili is ready to go!

  11. The best pantry/freezer meal for me is a quick crock pot mexican chicken soup! Beans, frozen chicken, canned tomatoes, canned green chiles, whatever fresh veg I have, and I am it up with frozen spinach, tons of frozen peppers, and peas. I always love mexican, so this is pretty healthy AND delicious and satisfies the craving for SPICY!!

  14. By far the simplest quick lunch/dinner idea ever: heat up some frozen broccoli. Add pasta sauce and lots of parmesan cheese. Devour! I guess its pantry and freezer, but this is such a filling combination and really is amazing!! plus it lends itself to adding more things (veggies, cheeses, even sausage) really well!
