Ok, I’ll admit it. My dog, Murphy, is spoiled. He’s so adorable, it’s tough not to give in to his shenanigans and spoil him rotten. Let’s just say that he lives a very comfortable pug life.
For instance… Murphy makes himself comfortable whenever he pleases.

He enjoys tastes of peanut butter straight from the jar.

And has 20+ toys that he can play with whenever he wants.

He’s definitely spoiled. Good thing he’s cute!
Murphy loves to chew his toys. In fact, I find myself throwing away a destroyed dog toy at lease once a week. So, instead of buying him new toys, I’ve made him a couple of homemade ones that he really loves.
Dishtowel Dog Toy
From Real Simple

What you need: Three laundered dish towels and scissors.
What you do:
1. Cut an inch-wide strip from one short end each of two towels.
2. Bunch together the three towels and firmly tie one strip around an end to join them. Tightly braid the towels, then tie the other end with the second strip.
Also works with: Napkins and orphan socks, for smaller pooches.
Sock Dog Toy

What you need: 4 old socks
What you do:
1. Roll up 3 of the socks into balls and put them inside one of the socks.
2. Tie the top of the sock into a tight knot.
Bonus:
The sock dog toy also makes a great pillow for a tired dog.

In the summer, I love adding fresh sliced strawberries & blueberries with a little feta cheese, pecans, and a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. YUMM! Homemade croutons are awesome too.

what great ideas! It sounds like your Murphy is very much like my Winston in the way he goes through toys. And yes, Winston is spoiled and has way too many too! His latest thing is that if the toy has any type of protrusion, he has to pull it off! The toys you make sound like they’d be great b/c there’s really nothing to pull off plus what a great way to recycle old towels and socks! Thanks!
So darn cute! I love that picture of him with the huge fluffy bone toy. XD
We tie old socks into knots (usually three per sock, one in the middle and one on each end) for our dog when she needs a new toy…she loves them! I seriously think she likes them more than the $10 supposedly indestructable toys.
Hey Tina! I miss you over at carrotsncake! Is everything alright with your webserver or is it my computer that’s having issues?
It keeps saying “temporarily unavailable”?
Cute! My dog always goes through his toys so fast…He destroys them but has fun doing it! This is a much more affordable option. Thanks!
@Sami: I think it’s your computer!

I love the towel dog toy idea! My dog loves his toys and doesn’t really chew on them much, but my parent in law’s dog destroys toys so quickly. Something like this would work great for him.
The bone covering up his face, priceless. I’m lol-ing over here.
These are terrific ideas bc I have this stuff lying around and it doesnt matter if it gets destroyed. Great tips!
Great ideas! I will be making these! So creative!
I like to tie up old panty hose too for my doggie
It would be hard NOT to spoil that cute face!
These are great tips. My pup has a million toys, but prefers to chew on anything he can find around the house that’s NOT his. So I’m guessing he’d prefer these toys made out of MY things over the fancy ones I buy from the store!
Murphy is the cutest! We make our own dog toys too!! Wyatt and Josie love “bone on a rope”. We get marrow bones from the supermarket and let them chew them until the marrow is gone and they are hollow, then string a thick nylon rope through and tie at each end. It works well for throwing, and just for regular old dog chew time.
What a great post, thanks!
[...] but I had completely forgotten about them until Carrots N Cake re-brought them to my attention in a post on Trading Up Downtown last week. To make the toy is sooo simple and your dog will thank you, believe [...]
