Track Your Budget

As you know, I’m all about saving money, especially when it comes to grocery shopping. Since the month just started, I thought it would be beneficial to track my grocery budget for April to see where I can save money.

There’s only two of us in our household, so my husband and I try not to spend more than $75 per week on groceries. Because of meal planning, coupon cutting, and other money-saving tips and tricks, we usually come in right around the $75 mark. But, wouldn’t it be nice to come in below budget most of the time?

For the month of April, I have challenged myself to spend less than $75 each week of the month. To help me meet my goal, I have attached an envelope to the front of my refrigerator. Every time I buy groceries, I will put the receipt in the envelope, so at the end of the month, I can analyze my spending to see where I can make cuts. I’ll be sure to report back how I do at the end of the month. ;)

Will you challenge yourself to track your grocery budget for this month, too?

  2. I’ve been doing a similar thing these last few weeks, as I’m trying to save for a trip to Italy! If you make lists, save coupons, and don’t go grocery shopping hungry, you should be all set. :)

  3. Do you ever use wholesale clubs? That’s what we do and it especially saves on products that you buy all the time like yogurt, Tyson chicken breasts, Morning Star products, granola bars, etc. Some of them, including the one I go to, allow you to use coupons from circulars as well as their own coupons. It’s awesome! The produce is pretty good, too :) I’ve saved a ton of money there this year!

  4. I’ve been working on budgeting and more responsible spending/ financial responsibility all around so this is right up my alley.

I have a question for you about cutting coupons though. Where/ what have you found to be the best place to get coupons? I generally have a hard time finding coupons for the products I actually buy. Most of the coupons I find are for the over-processed junk food I don’t buy.

Oh also, the tea and cookies giveaway package arrived yesterday, but I have to go pick it up at the post office this morning since it didn’t fit it my tiny condo mailbox. I’m super excited!!!!

  5. I’m always try to cut back on groceries while trying not to compromise. My mom has been cutting coupons ever since I was born. She actually used to keep track and would save thousands, yes THOUSANDS of dollars per year.

  9. I love coupons :) . I save so much money that way! I am anal about buying local/organic produce though, so I always spend a little extra on that! And, mint.com is awesome!

You’ve inspired me to do the same thing. So far I’ve spent $25 on groceries for two people… I’m starting an envelope collection on my fridge too. Good luck to you and Mal!

  12. I’m so worried about the way our love ones are headed in nowadays. Watching Jamie Olivers food revolution on tv the other day scared the thingies out of me. I suggest we all start cooking some healthy recipes like these at home if we’re going to fix this horrible situation. The ones on that site seem pretty easy, I tried last night and it’s the first time my family has eaten healthy in so long, I just feel great.
