Hawaiian Pizza for Dinner

IMG_2345After blogging about the Hawaiian Pizza that I planned to make for dinner tonight, I thought you might be interested to see how its ingredients scored on the NuVal scale. (Remember 100 is the highest score.)

  • Boboli Thin Crust: 13
  • Bertolli Tomato and Basil Sauce: 50
  • Sargento Fancy Shredded Mozzarella Cheese: 23
  • Dole No Sugar Added Pineapple Chunks: 23
  • Hillshire Farm Deli Select Thin Sliced Ham: 25

My homemade Hawaiian pizza tasted delicious, but a few ingredient trade-ups would have easily increased its nutritional profile:

  • Eden Foods Spaghetti Sauce No Salt: 91
  • Lisanatti fresh mozzarella: 76
  • Fresh Pineapple: 99

As you can see, a few small changes to my pizza could have made it a more nutritious meal– and probably equally as delicious.

  1. Looks delicious! I love that the few changes you list make a HUGE difference in the nutritional value of this meal. And who doesn’t want nutritious PIZZA? Hahaha ;)

  2. I made pizza using the Boboli thin crust the other night so I’m surprised it scored so low. Was the 13 the score for the whole wheat or the regular crust? I used whole wheat (fingers crossed, haha). I also used reduced fat Italian blend cheese and just veggies (no meat) so I still think I did better than calling in delivery.

(My BF agrees with Rachel and won’t let me make “healthy” pizza. Had to save it for a girl’s night!)

  3. That made my mouth water. No one around me likes Hawaiian Pizza, so I never order it. (Besides, we NEVER order pizza any more.) I was going to say the same thing as Rachel, its amazing the difference. I am so looking forward to having Nuval in TX!
