Hi, I’m Kristi from Healthy Living. Since we all know how busy Tina has been lately, I offered to do a guest post to help her out a little. In doing so, I decided to check out the NuVal website to get a better idea of how the system worked. I found out that the NuVal system is really easy to understand: the higher the number, the more nutritious the food is for you. It was really that simple! After reading all about NuVal and finding out how it works from Tina, I was eager to learn how some of my favorites ranked.
Since I live in Wisconsin, I do not have any of the stores that NuVal is currently promoting its product in. But, to my surprise, I found a ton of information just on their website. They currently have 101 different products ranked on their website; some of which I eat on a daily basis. I learned that some of my choices were not the best and that there were ways to boost them up a bit.
Here are some of the products I have swapped since learning about NuVal:
Blueberries for Coconut
I used to use coconut as a topping for oatmeal, but once I saw the score of 24, I knew I had to make a swap. So, I opted for blueberries. Since I love blueberries, making the swap wasn’t hard to do. I think seeing how low coconut scored helped me realize why coconut rum packs on a little more weight than regular rum.
Frozen Cut Beans for Frozen beans in Sauce
I used to pick up frozen green beans in sauce to make dinner easy. What I didn’t realize was how much healthier it was to get regular frozen beans without the sauce. The great thing about getting plain beans is that I can spice them up on my own, throw them in a salad or eat them as a snack between meals.
Shredded Wheat and Bran Cereal for Kashi Strawberry Fields
I used to live on Kashi Strawberry Fields cereal. I would eat it for a snack or mix it into yogurt. But, when I saw the number, it kind of turned me off a little. Don’t get me wrong, I will still eat this cereal because I love it, but sometimes I want a cereal that will satisfy me and be healthy too! So, I decided to try Shredded Wheat and Bran Cereal and it was pretty good. Once I threw some blueberries and almond milk into the mix, it was money!
I hope you will take the time to look at the NuVal site and look for it while you are grocery shopping. You may change your mind about a few items in your pantry.
But take it from me, there is no way this girl is trading up her homemade sugar cookies for healthy ones– there are just some things I won’t budge on!
